|
Pure calcium is a bright slivery white metal, although under normal atmospheric conditions exposed surfaces quickly become covered with an oxide layer. Calcium metal does not occur free in nature, it is present in various forms in minerals such as Calcite, Dolomite, and Gypsum.
Calcium has a wide range of large volume uses such as Lime (CaO & Ca(OH)2 used for water treatment; Calcium Carbonate used in paints, cleaning powders, and coatings; Calcium Phosphate used as a fertilizer; Calcium Sulfate – Gypsum – used to make drywall.
