Copper Electro-winning
One of the United States’ most important natural resources
is copper. There are dozens of copper mines in the U.S. ,
most of which are located in the southwestern states of New
Mexico and Arizona. Over the last few decades, the copper
industry has experienced vast improvements in productivity.
The cost efficiency of mining and purifying copper metal has
been greatly enhanced through the development of a process
called SX-EW (Solvent Extraction and Electro-Winning).
Cobalt Sulfate Solution is one of the principal raw materials
utilized in the electro-winning process. Shepherd Chemical
is proud to be the copper industry’s original supplier
of Cobalt Sulfate solution. In the final stages of the copper
plating process, Cobalt Sulfate reacts with residual lead
in the copper sulfate solution. If left unreacted, the lead
quickly degrades the anode and ultimately reduces the cost
efficiency of copper metal production. In addition to Cobalt
Sulfate Solution, we also manufacture Cobalt Sulfate crystal.
The crystal is available in both Technical and Reagent grades.
