Lithium

Lithium is a slivery-white metal which is the lightest metal in the periodic table and highly reactive. It is extracted primarily from brine pools but is also found in commercially viable concentrations in granites.
Owing to its properties, there are several important applications for lithium. In recent years the use of lithium for rechargeable batteries has increased significantly. Lithium is a primary compounds for use in metallic soaps for greases. Organolithium reagents are widely used in the fine chemical industry.
