Potassium is a soft, silvery white alkali metal which is highly reactive in its pure form. Potassium is recovered through extraction and processing of potash (K2CO3) from deposits around the world.

Potassium is an important biological element required for proper functioning of plant and animal cells. Industrial uses of potassium include glass coloring, soap manufacture, oxidizing agents, and pyrotechnics.
