Doing the Right Thing for Sustainable Metal Chemistry
We CONTRIBUTE positively to our communities and society by providing products that do good in the world, investing in and supporting education, and offering ongoing Physical, Social, Financial, and Community wellbeing programs for our team members.
Education
Education and STEM outreach are vital for nurturing future talent and fostering curiosity. The Shepherd team supports local schools through interactive workshops, site tours, and mentorship programs. These initiatives help enrich students’ learning experiences and encourage careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Adopt-A-Class
Adopt A Class links businesses and civic partners with underserved Greater Cincinnati students, offering mentorship and career exposure. Shepherd mentors students at Sharpsburg Elementary, supporting their educational development and exposure to various career paths.
Loveland Intermediate School Science Day
Loveland Science Day is an event where experts from various fields of science & technology dedicate part of their day to sharing their knowledge with 5-6th grade students. The Shepherd team engaged students with interactive chemistry experiments focusing on slime.
Cincinnati Squash Academy Camp
The Cincinnati Squash Academy (CSA) supports disadvantaged youth with life-skills mentoring, academic tutoring, and squash training. Shepherd hosted CSA students in Norwood for fun experiments and an introduction to STEM careers.
Norwood High School
Norwood High School is a public school that serves grade(s) 9-12. Shepherd actively supports the chemistry/science students by providing essential lab supplies and equipment, such as a new hood. We also engage with students through hands-on experiments and educational activities.
Manufacturing Day
Manufacturing Day, held in October, showcases modern manufacturing careers. It invites students, parents, educators, and community leaders to explore opportunities in the industry. Shepherd hosted students from Middletown High School for a tour and an inside look at the manufacturing world.
Community
Community development and engagement are essential for fostering vibrant, resilient communities. An important aspect of social responsibility at Shepherd is supporting the communities where we live and work. Shepherd team members, through their generosity and willingness to engage, are dedicated to positively impacting our communities and society.
Baby Bear
Baby Bear supports Norwood families with children from newborn to 5 years old by offering free diapers, baby essentials, community meals, and educational preparation. The Shepherd team volunteers at their monthly events.
Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization that uses physical activity to help girls develop social, emotional, and physical skills. The Shepherd Team ran a water stop at their 2024 end-of-season 5K.
CAIN (Churches Active in Northside)
CAIN is a neighborhood organization that transforms lives and inspires hope by providing nutritious food, crisis assistance, resources, and compassion in a way that inspires hope and builds a more vibrant community. The Shepherd team regularly works on landscaping projects for the organization.
Gem of the Highlands 5K
The Gem of the Highlands is an annual 5K race that celebrates the Norwood community and raises money to improve local parks. Shepherd is a sponsor and several team members participate in the race.
Cincinnati Heart Mini Marathon
The Cincinnati Heart Mini-Marathon and Walk is a two-day event that raises funds for the American Heart Association. Shepherd participated in this annual event and raised $2200 in 2024 with 32 employees from Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mirecourt, France participating.
Crayons to Computers
Crayons to Computers (C2C) is a "Teacher's Free Store" providing new and recycled school supplies at no cost to 110 needy schools in the Greater Cincinnati area. The Shepherd team helped unload supplies and stocked shelves.
Dress for Success
The mission of Dress for Success is to help unemployed and underemployed women achieve economic independence by providing no-fee programs, development tools, and professional attire to thrive in work and in life. The Shepherd team attends fundraising events and sorts donations at their facility.
Pink Ribbon Campaign
The Cris Collinsworth ProScan Fund’s Pink Ribbon Programs offer education, easy access to early detection of breast cancer and provide comfort for women battling breast cancer. Shepherd has participated in their pink ribbon bag-filling events.
Well-Being
Health and wellness are fundamental to a productive and satisfied workforce. Shepherd is dedicated to supporting its team members in these areas.
