Green Graphite & Shepherd Partner on Battery-Grade Graphite
Monday, February 23, 2026

Green Graphite Technologies Inc. (“GGT”), an emerging graphite manufacturing technology company, and The Shepherd Chemical Company (“Shepherd”), a family-owned, Ohio-based specialty chemical manufacturer, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) to explore areas of collaboration for the purpose of commercializing GGT’s patented, cost-effective and highly sustainable purification technology to produce battery-grade graphite and other high purity graphite products, serving the North American lithium-ion battery (“LiB”) and non-LiB markets.
The MOU outlines a roadmap whereby Shepherd will support GGT during the first phase of GGT’s technology demonstration with commissioning starting in March 2026 in Ontario. GGT’s team, with a wealth of technology development and capital project experience, will leverage Shepherd’s broad operational and technical expertise. Both parties will explore commercial opportunities and synergies in the North American LiB and non-LiB markets, supporting both the US and Canadian government initiatives to onshore critical mineral midstream processing. A successful collaboration will lead to a definitive agreement later this year with the goal of ramping up towards a first commercial operation.
“Proprietary, cost-effective technology is only valuable if it can be rapidly scaled and commercialized. Partnering with Shepherd Chemical, an organization with over 100 years of experience bringing high-value materials to market, significantly de-risks our go-to-market strategy. This collaboration positions GGT to accelerate commercialization and address the growing North American supply gap for lithium-ion battery anode materials.”
– Gillian Holcroft, Cofounder & CEO, Green Graphite Technologies
“Collaboration with great partners is at the core of innovation at Shepherd Chemical. Together with Green Graphite Technologies, we’re excited to scale leading-edge technology essential to the future of critical materials in the energy storage market. Our partnership brings together complementary expertise in chemistry, process development, and manufacturing – united by a shared mission to advance sustainable chemistry.”
– Jennifer Haggard, General Manager, The Shepherd Chemical Company
About Green Graphite Technologies Inc.
Green Graphite Technologies Inc. (GGT), headquartered in Montreal, Quebec with pilot operations in Mississauga and Kingston, Ontario, is commercializing its patented purification technology to produce battery-grade graphite from mined and recycled sources to address the urgent need to onshore supply for North American lithium-ion battery manufacturers (i.e. gigafactories). With 55% lower operating costs compared to traditional methods and an 82% reduction in carbon footprint versus China-produced anode active materials, GGT’s technology is poised to enable the cost-effective and sustainable onshoring of midstream processing of this critical mineral. Following successful piloting, GGT will be starting up the first phase of its technology demonstration in early Q2 2026 in Mississauga, Ontario. GGT plans to establish its first commercial lithium-ion battery grade graphite plant operation in 2029.
